What Moves the Dead

By T. Kingfisher

I had anxiously anticipated the release of this book, since first seeing the cover, about 4 months ago.

Alex Easton, a retired soldier, has recently received word that an old friend, Madeline Usher, has fallen ill. We encounter Easton near the end of the journey to Raritania, where Madeline resides.

There is something not quite right about Raritania. First off, the hares are acting strangely, there is a pulsing lake, and there are odd mushrooms everywhere. Secondly, Madeline sleep walks, and speaks strangely at times.

I was instantly drawn to the characters who are so wonderfully detailed within the pages of this book. The settings also come to life on the page.

I know this book is supposed to be horror, but I had to remind myself that this isn’t an adult horror novel. Although, I’m an adult, and I loved it. It is a bit of a slow burn, but definitely well worth your time.

I will not only be highly recommending this tome, but will also have an eye out for T. Kingfisher’s other books.
